Peter Tate. If I were to break it down to understand the roots of my name I could look like this …
Peter – Rock or stone – by this you could image I was dense, immovable (stubborn?), formed over time and under pressure (hmm could be onto something here). Perhaps I’d rather it was more along the lines of being solid, of substance, carrying weight (well that part is true). Maybe I could even be reliable enough to form a foundation. Now there is an aspiration.
Tate - Windy – no comments about my manners please. Nevertheless "windy" brings change, removing old to make space for the new; has energy and forcefulness at times, softer, more refreshing at others.
I could wax lyrical for much longer, becoming increasingly vain and self-absorbed. At times I do. Yet thinking about who I am, what I have become, where I contribute to the cycle of life does have value, as it does for us all. Self-reflection can create some interesting perspectives.
If "I think therefore I am" is true then what we think, how we think becomes the essence of who we are; how we behave and the self-reflected perspectives start to make sense. This all brings me to the title of this blog. It’s the thought that counts.
So who am I really, what do I do and what do I have to share? Stick with me and perhaps we’ll discover together?
As a starter I am a person that needs to care for and nurture others. I mostly do this through my Career Development work.
I have a clear sense that people are responsible for themselves. Despite what governments and authorities want us to be, and especially contrary to how schools want us to think we need to become self-sufficient enough to contribute to society. So Personal Development is high on my agenda. As far as possible I believe that we should all be financially independent. My starting point for this is what I call Financial Resilience.
Contributing to society can start in your own community. I am interested in Transition Towns in this context.
So, after all my high ideals and beliefs I also manage to work for money. While career development is a passion, helping others make money on the web is another string to my bow. I am an aging programmer, capable of communicating and not afraid to draw on real business experience to make things happen.
So what do you think? Could we chat and share ideas?
I hope so,
